Alpha Direct Services places an order with psb
The rapidly expanding French e-commerce service provider Alpha Direct Services (ADS) asked psb to implement a highly-dynamic warehousing and order picking system for the distribution of shoes.
On the basis of a service contract, ADS will handle the distribution logistics and returns management for the premium internet seller sarenza.com. The company already has customers in several European countries.
ADS was looking for the appropriate system equipment, in order to be able to respond to the increasing business demands. After an intensive planning phase, in cooperation with the psb engineers, ADS decided for a highly-dynamic shuttle warehouse, with 5 multi-functional workstations, connecting materials handling equipment, plus the necessary control system.
In the distribution center of Alpha Direct Services, located in Beauvais, the commodities are stored, picked, packed and dispatched.
The 5-aisle high-bay warehouse for bins, with 30 vario.sprinter shuttles and over 30,000 locations, is connected directly with 5 multi-function workstations, through high-speed materials handling equipment. At these workstations, the goods are picked out of the bins, and the bins are directly refilled (top-up operation) before being stored again. A material handling system conveys the picked items to the packing and dispatch area.
Crucial factors during the common intensive design phase of this highly-dynamic warehousing and order picking system were: economic efficiency, low personnel head count, high flexibility and modularity, as well as the specification of the processes for the final stage of the project.
