Innovation – implemented: Efficient Returns Management at »NEXT«

Next PLC has been one of the first psb customers who have relied on the innovative system solution with the combination of rotapick and vario.sprinter. With a high-performance system installation for the storing and picking of returns, the British fashion retailer is able to manage the constantly growing e-commerce business more efficiently.

A significant increase in the picking capacity, by 33 %, plus the successful cooperation of both companies, were the two main factors in order to realize the project together.

psb intralogistics GmbH has designed for Next a highly dynamic, automated warehousing system, in order to be able to manage the company’s growing mail order and internet business. The installation consists of more than 100 psb vario.sprinter shuttles, plus 12 special-design psb rotapick high-performance order picking modules. According to psb’s »green efficiency« philosophy, this system solution has been developed with regard to a sustainable use of resources, by utilizing ultra-modern energy recovery modules. In the last few years, psb has already received several prizes for this technology.

After extensive performance tests at the premises of psb, followed by the practical application at Next, the operation of the new installation for the storage and picking of returns was started as scheduled. In the past, psb already implemented various other projects in Great Britain successfully, among them the first automated warehouse for hanging items, operated with AS/RS stacker crane systems, which was installed in the year 1997.
