psb hands over third system installation to kohlpharma
After the third implementation phase has been completed, the warehousing area of the leading importer of pharmaceuticals is now organized by 12 AS/RS stacker cranes in total. In the automated psb storage aisles, all kinds of transport modules are handled: euro-pallets, standard bins of 600 x 400 mm, and different conical pharmaceutical containers.
Special feature is the automated cold storage, which will be operated by employing the psb optimizer as load handling device on the AS/RS device. With the optimizer, bins of different sizes can be stored (multi-deep), in and out, on storage levels, similar to shelf-rackings. For this purpose, the optimizer load handling device adapts to the different bin dimensions and pushes the bins onto the shelf rack, or pulls the bins from the shelf rack respectively.
All technical elements of the conveyor and AS/RS systems are especially designed for the cold storage environment.
»green efficiency«: As a matter of course, the AS/RS devices which were supplied within the scope of the second and third implementation phases, are equipped with psb energy recovery modules. Only the five AS/RS devices of the first phase, implemented in the year 2005, were delivered without these modules. As a company, which is well aware of its ecological responsibility, kohlpharma decided to retrofit these five systems with energy recovery modules. With these units, the energy, developed during the deceleration (and braking action) of the crane drives, is re-generated into the power supply system and thus can be used by other consumers. This way, up to 50% of energy can be saved. With this retrofit, all 12 AS/RS devices at kohlpharma are now equipped with eco-friendly and cost-efficient psb energy recovery modules. A positive contribution to the reduction of CO2 emissions and operation expenses.
